ICF SPRINT WORLD CUP I – SZEGED 2024
Posted at 20.05.2024
Szeged put together the European Olympic Qualifier, Paracanoe Sprint World Championship and the first Sprint World Cup of the season. A lot of emotions and thrilling racing, all in a single week.
Like last year, we witnessed one of the most exciting rivalries of modern sprint canoeing: Lisa Carrington vs Aimee Fisher in the K1 500. It was the time for Aimee to step to the highest place on the podium. But nobody could stop wondering about the rematch in Paris. What a race it will be.
Lisa won the K2 500 with Alicia Hoskin.
Fernando Pimenta is one of kind: three races, three medals. Gold in the K1 5K, Silver in the Mix K2 with Teresa Portela and Bronze in the K1 1000.
In the Paracanoe World Championship the biggest surprise was the first gold medal for Katherinne Wollermann. And not less important, the world titles for Curtis McGrath, David Gonzalez, Fernando Rufino de Paulo, Vladyslav Yepifanov, Luis Carlos Cardoso da Silva, Laura Sugar and Juan Antonio Valle.
We would like to congratulate all the european and paracanoe athletes that grabbed the last tickets for Paris 2024. A very special mention to René Poulsen, that qualified for his third Olympic Games, Anezka Paloudova and Ruth Vorsselman for their first.
